Terry Alexander

Terry Alexander is a lifelong Jacksonville resident, and he is thrilled at the opportunity to participate in the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus River City Dancing with The Stars program to raise money for singer scholarships and ongoing programming for the JCC.  Terry understands the value this institution brings to our community and is grateful for the chance to help foster a love of the arts among our local youth.

Terry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the Florida State University, where he played baseball for the Seminoles.  Terry also holds a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Kinesiology from the University of North Florida.

After graduating from FSU, Terry joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, where he played Minor League Baseball for one year before moving back to Jacksonville to become an assistant coach for the Jacksonville Dolphins baseball team at Jacksonville University.  Terry worked his way up the ranks to become not only the Head Coach, but the winningest coach in any sport in JU’s history.  During his 23 years as Head Coach, Terry played a key role in promoting JU’s athletics program and developing JU’s reputation for athletic excellence on a national scale.  For example, Terry led the charge in securing the construction of JU’s new baseball stadium.  He also coached eight players who went on to the Major League, and 82 players who secured professional contracts with other organizations.  He even had his own television show, The Terry Alexander Show, on the Sunshine Network for six years.

Terry’s achievements at JU led to his selection as a coach for the U.S. National Baseball Team.  His other coaching experience includes serving as a Minor League Hitting Coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, as well as the first team hitting coach in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan.  Terry’s career as a baseball coach has taken him all over the world, which helped to foster his love of travel and experiencing new cultures.

Terry also has extensive experience in live radio and television broadcasting, including as a color commentator for ESPN’s baseball programming.  Terry is also a gifted motivational speaker and mentor, with a focus on improving morale and personal performance.  An accomplished fundraiser, Terry has raised millions of dollars for worthy causes over the course of his career.

Although he has now retired from organizational coaching, Terry still gives lessons to help aspiring young people achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the highest levels.  In short, Terry has dedicated his life to helping others succeed both on the field and in their personal lives.

Terry is proudly married to his strong and beautiful wife, Miriam Alexander, whose jewelry stores have been a fixture of the Jacksonville community for 50 years.

Although he has never had any formal lessons, Terry loves to dance.  He cannot wait to learn some new moves from the excellent professionals at the All About Ballroom dance studio, and he hopes that you will join him in supporting the JCC by voting for him as your favorite dancer!
